What is urinary incontinence? Urinary incontinence (UI) is the involuntary flow of urine, which means a person cannot control their bladder and may experience leakage unexpectedly. Although it can occur in women and men, it is more common in women. There are different types of UI, including stress incontinence (leakage with coughing), urge incontinence (sudden and intense urge to urinate), overflow incontinence (leakage due to the bladder being too full), and mixed incontinence (combination of stress and urge incontinence). There are various factors such as weak pelvic muscles, nerve damage, certain medications, hormonal changes, prostate problems, urinary tract infections, obesity, chronic coughing, and neurological conditions can cause urinary incontinence.

Symptoms of urinary incontinence

  • Involuntary leakage of urine during any physical activity or coughing or sneezing
  • Frequent Urination
  • Urinary Incontinence (a sudden urge to urinate)
  • Abdominal pain

To diagnose urinary incontinence, doctors may perform tests such as a urinalysis or bladder function test to diagnose UI, along with a medical history review.

Treatment options for UI

Urinary Incontinence can be treated with medications such as beta-3 adrenergic agonists that help relax the bladder and improve incontinence symptoms. Medical Devices like urethral inserts and electrical stimulation devices can help support the bladder or stimulate nerves that control the bladder. Pelvic floor exercises can be performed with lifestyle changes. In some cases, surgery helps to correct structural abnormalities of the bladder. Absorbent products like adult diapers and pads can be supportive measures to prevent leakage and improve the quality of life.

Betmiga 50mg Tablet is used to treat Urinary Incontinence. It contains the active ingredient Mirabegron. It activates the β3 receptors, reduces the bladder tone by relaxing the detrusor muscle, and inhibits overactivity of the bladder. β3 receptors are present in the detrusor muscle of the urinary bladder and induce its relaxation. Increased heart rate, nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, dizziness, and urinary tract infection are some common side effects of Mirabegron.
